We have managed returns for a number of companies that include requirements such as medical device decontamination, testing product to validate defect or suitability for resale, repackage for secondary market, re-label, product lifecycle requirements, apparel steaming & folding, and product transformation.

We feel that the logical and best logistical solution for managing returns is to utilize your 3rd party logistics provider for a couple of reasons. First, the cost of running all returns product through your 3rd party logistics provider will be lower since your costs are variable and 99% of the reverse logistics tasks can be handled by 3PL warehouse employees.  Second, by keeping activities within your 3PL warehouse, you’ll eliminate transportation costs and transit times, which maximizes margins and makes products more readily available for redeployment.

Our distribution center located in the San Francisco Bay Area uses a state of the art WMS that has a reverse logistics module specifically designed to handle the processing of returns, which leverages the system to drive quality into the process by using a systemically driven step-by-step process.

One other word to the wise, our core competency is reverse logistics and 4 walls warehousing & order fulfillment.  We did not start out as a trucker, freight forwarder, or mover.  We stick to what we know and do not morph into something else when it suits us.  However, we’ve got great partners in those industries who work with us to provide turn-key solutions for our customers.
